Proof

Others treat these things as gods. Some would call them evil. Neither which you believe, I aim not to convince you or withdraw. I would just like to feel this summer and enjoy those moments together with those refreshing ice cold drinks.

These are alcohols, as many would say. They are one of the chosen highlights during many events nowadays-Parties-Birthdays-Weddings etc. They are commonly misunderstood for what are they capable of; Or what they are not.

Ethanol alcohol is the kind of alcohol makers use to mix with other substances in alcoholic beverages (there are different kinds of alcohol). This kind of mixture when drank, eventually makes its consumers to be “drunk”. This is what it is capable off, some consider it good but many see it negatively. Alcoholic drinks normally comes with ice because they easily get cold like many other beverages. A lot of people may argue.. Does liquor freeze? Yes it does, but the freezing point is far below that of water. Exactly what that freezing point is depends on the “proof” of the liquor. Pure ethanol freezes at around -114 °C (-173.2 degree Fahrenheit). Alcoholic beverages will freeze somewhere between -114 °C and 0 °C depending on the alcohol content. When you try putting your liquor in your freezer at home, don’t expect it to freeze because your standard freezer won’t reach its freezing point. However, low proof liquors could be frozen but I recommend not putting it there because it might explode leaving a big frozen mess.

What is this “proof” thing?

Well to make it easier to understand, it is double of the percentage of alcohol in a beverage. For example, A “20 proof liqour”would have 10% alcohol. There is quite a history of this “proof” telling us that the ratio is not exactly 2:1 and how did bartolomew sikes invented the hydrometer called “sikes’ hydrometer” of london. He invented it because excise tax was charged based on how strong the liquor, so being able to accurately measure alcoholic content was good for the government coffers.

I hope this little information helps!
